I was reading the articles published on the iPhone12 and wondering why they chose to release this news on the day Apple stopped supplying it and released the iPhone15 as the latest model. Seems rather coincidental….

I do have to take issue with the description of a theremin virtuoso - as I wasn’t aware they existed in the first place, no I am not a theremin fan myself, I think my cat makes a better noise and 95% of the time she is silent.

I can see how plants make the noise as you are picking up on biological processes , but am not sure how a static pile of clothing will unless you start rummaging in them to induce a current…. Are you going to publish the results?

So further to my revelations here previously that my new washing machine has WiFi (no I didn’t select said washing machine, and frankly it just came with WiFi). I worked in Product Management for a bit and realised that your latest brainchild simply has to have whatever the latest buzzword features are, or people will just ignore it, or perhaps think it retro or quaint. This the next time I have to buy a washing machine it will doubtless come with cloud-hosted AI that I will have to pay a subscription for or it downs tools. Said AI will likely require a detailed explanation of how your clothes got dirty so it can search Large Laundry Models (TM) to “optimise the washing experience”, although whose experience is not said; the customers, machine, the clothes or the vendor? Who cares? Perhaps this machine could attach electrodes to the clothes to communicate with them in a Gwyneth Paltrow patented fashion?

Let's all thank our lucky stars.

Bitcoin blew through too fast to make it into applicance product cycles.

We dodged a bullet there!

There is a swathe of Jacques Brel recordings that were ruined by the inclusion of a theramin. It would be interesting (for me, anyway) to run a comparative test of audio editing software to see which is best at removing the bleedin' theramin while keeping the other instruments and the great man's voice intact. Do they still do practical comparative tests of IT products any more? Or is it all just "unboxing"?

"Les Ondes!!!!"

The French love a good techphobe rant. Plenty of "Non a 5G !!!!" (badly) hand-painted roadside placards (signs, not cupboards) around near where I am. These are people who literally leather their skin from decades of bronzage on the beaches and up in the mountains.

I met a guy at a local market who was campaigning against Linky smart meters. He expressed to me his horror that Enedis and EDF would have private information about him, i.e. how much electricity he was using. I tried to say that's what all meters are for, including old fashioned ones, but he was having none of it. He would die before allowing a tech company to scrape all his data, he insisted... before handing me a leaflet that included his Gmail address.

Well I suppose they could guess his usage and then he could have another conspiracy theory on how they worked it out…l

It is like the tinfoil hat privacy brigade having a page on Facebook…. (They probably do but I don’t go anywhere near Facebook myself - not due to privacy just don’t want to be involved)

Presumably the poor abandoned dirty underwear composes songs in D Minor, it is the saddest chord !

That chord makes one of the best bits of organ music though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3AiGw8mkq0

So maybe underwear is the next Bach?

Indeed a Mach piece composed in that key can cause people to weep instantly!

It's a question I never thought would arise in this learned forum, but we don't know, or want to know, the form of Mr D's underpants. For all we know, they may already thing a thong.

Underwear, the last ones I bought were from Tesco, but they are lasting pretty well, actually better than some M&S bought slightly before.

None of them siing or perform any form of music.
