We had a rep who planned his visits to customers around his detailed map of public toilets. In later years, this map had a lot of crossings-out resulting in a lot of crossing-legs, I suppose.

A 'Uritrottoir' would never catch on in blighty; It would get vandalised leaving the alleyway free for the usual activities that walls provide to the ex-pubgoer. Perhaps Chat GPT might be able to provide a logical argument and explanation for this outcome.

As far as I recall, you never see a 'Uritrottoir' in the action films where the hunter/hunted chase/race/drive down ginnels.

My Mum had (what I still think is) a great idea about writing tourist guides to publically accessible toilets. Where to find them, how to use them (you'd be surprised), rating them, etc. Mind you, she did think this up towards the end of five weeks in Egypt. I was going to call the series "The Lonely Prostrate".

We have no need of AI to turn people into cretins, mobile phones have got that task well in hand

Did a 70km bike ride the other day, spent most of it being shouted at by idiots walking with their heads down and headphones on looking at their phone whilst on a cycle path. Between that and the dog walkers complaining that bikes scare their dog (don't walk it on a fucking cycle path then!) it was rather less enjoyable than it should have been.

I’ve seen those movies. No, not the ones taken by the 20yr old that’s just been posted to Twitter of the latest life hack. I mean the ones where we watch someone kick a helmet and break two toes, or jump across a gap between two buildings and break an ankle… there’s no way this side of my non-existent garden fence that I’m sticking my Crown Jewels anywhere near such a ‘Uritrottoir’.

I watched Bing’s (other search engines are available) CHATBOT ‘type’ out a reply in the same way I do a Word document. Spout out some words, go back and highlight or otherwise modify the font on something then carry on. It’s like watching my brain work it’s magic but without the physical exhaustion of actually typing 80 pages of waffle along side some diagrams. Trust me, given some of the 100 page documents I have to review I’d probably take ‘useless waffle’ any day as it’d make more sense. Still, we get paid, and we learn to hold bag the fit of giggles when someone says ‘So, this AI thing they keep talking about. I’ll be steering the conversation onto ‘Uritrottoirs’ from now on…

Talking about motorcycles in movies (what do you mean we weren't?), why is it that every motorcycle you see in films today is, more often than not, a Triumph?

For the same reason that in every plausible Apple TV+ flick everyone uses iPhones, but without any case that a sensible person would buy five minutes after buying the actual phone, along with a screen protector. I’ve yet to see an iPhone dropped in the uritrottoir or with glass scratched to heck in one of those.

Do I have to choose between the two options? I can frequently be either cretinously careful or carefully cretinous - it all depends on the situation.
